The Email notification was appreciated — I’ve downloaded “Cool Hand”, will be reading it tonight & tomorrow and, of course, wondering when the next edition will be coming (no rest for the weary)!
Though (the price) was appreciated, you may want to raise it to $4.99 — seems to be the way many other authors are going, most will lesser abilities, and the book’s certainly long enough to show value-for-price…

Thanks Larry and Sharon. I’ve thought long and hard about pricing. I will probably put it up. I’m just waiting to see if the latest AuthorEarnings report has any indication of popularity between 3.99 and 4.99 – I’m not going to make my decision solely on that, but it’s part of the equation.
I also think that 4.99 would be perfectly reasonable. Not just because of the quality but the length too.
I’ve picked up a few 250-290 page books for 3.99 and feel that’s a little short. Anything over 400 (and I think all of your books are well over – depending on how Amazon is counting them), should be 4.99 on the other hand.
so may Indy authors are overcharging for books that can only be called serials. I think the math should be a penny a page rounded to the nearest 99 cents. your books are long enough and way beyond good enough to rate a higher price.
I would gladly pay more just to keep you writing.

This morning’s entertainment was to see the scores and rankings. Everything got a jolt, even the anthology!
I got mine! Just downloaded it – got an email from Robert Bird, another of your rabid followers (whom I intoducted to you, BTW! LOL) reminding me. It is 140am right now, and I was about to go to bed, but I know what I will be doing tomorrow! And yes, I would absolutely have no problem paying $4.99…

So 2/3 of the way thru. Would be done but I fell asleep at 2 AM instead of the usual 4. I just ran across the friend of Victor named Drake, which threw me for a second. Was that an Uncharted reference or just coincidence? Either way love the book so far, probably finish it some time today. Also despite anxiously waiting, thank you for delaying the release to Friday, otherwise I’d have been a zombie at work the day after it came out.
Lol. I had to go check the Uncharted cast list. No, it’s a coincidence this time, but keep alert, there are occasional references to art, people and fiction that I bury in the books.
Yes, having announced the 8th as the alternate day to the 3rd, I realized I’d be zombifying a number of people if I released on Sunday, so I rearranged for the Friday release. (The last editing pass was done on Friday morning!)

I have one reader with formatting peculiarities – there are no chapter breaks and the chapter headers are in plain text and are the same size of font as the text. Is anyone else seeing this?
Yes, to the above — no page-breaks & chapter headers are plain text. That’s using an “original Kindle” — haven’t checked other Kindle apps…

Yes on the chapter formatting stuff. I noticed that on my first read thru. I am using a fire 8.9hdx and the chapters start all over the place. Mostly at the bottom of a page.Doesn’t bother me though.
I really liked this book. I found it extremely captivating. I thought u really captured her mental state in the later part of the book… Not sure i liked that
though !!!!

Thank you all for feedback on the book and the formatting. It’s weird. If I send the book through Amazon to myself, the format is fine. If I submit the exact same book to Amazon to publish, it isn’t. I can force page breaks in Word before submission, but it previously wasn’t necessary. Sigh.
The next book is on the boil. I’ll post more about the general direction of it, but one thing I’m having trouble with is the name. I may have to lose the card game theme of the titles and start a new theme. 🙂

I’m also looking at a short sequel to the Biting Cold, and *may* bring Manda and Scott in as side characters in LA.
Just scribbles and thoughts at the moment.
There is also no table of contents in cool hand (The ToC in SoH is still missing, even though i was mistaken about the changes, those were made). I have no idea how to conversion to .mobi works, but it may be possible that if you can create a ToC then the system will recognize the chapters and thus create the pagebreaks.
I also noticed that the email alert (the one which went with the anthologie) concerning the release of a new book only reached those who signed up on your website and not, like orignially stated, everyone who got the anthologie through any author.
I liked cool hand very much and would like to know if you plan to release the next Amber Farrel novel or Bian`s Tale first?

I will have a look at the format problems today. Amazon is irritating – I convert the book to mobi and send it to my Kindle through their servers to check the format and everything is fine, including the ToC. You would think that this would be the same program that Amazon uses for submitted manuscripts, but no. That program strips all the formatting and ToC in my mobi file. I’m wondering now if anyone even has the map at the end which shows the approximate territories of the Were packs mentioned in the book.
Okay, so I’ll submit from Word and use their weird online format checker to make sure everything’s getting through. I have a couple of typos reported that are fixed as well.
Email alerts: I am an idiot. I have had the file waiting to go and simply forgot to send it. All the readers who had directly corresponded with me got an alert, but none of the new readers from the anthology got the alert. Anyway, fixed. The email has been sent now, and I’m holding the price of the first three books down for this week.

I think I have beaten the Amazon format demon into submission. 🙂
I’ve resubmitted the text for Cool Hand. It used to be you got asked if this was a sufficient change to re-send the book to all purchasers, but I couldn’t see that option this time. Anyway, you may get the book again. Apart from page breaks and correct format headings for the chapters, there are a couple of typos corrected and a Table of Contents has been inserted at the end.
I still get the same book without proper formation of the chapters:(
the reading samle (is that the right term for the first 10% u can get for free) has the breaks after each chapter…
SoH also seems to have a Table of Contents (reading sample). Why can i choose to get automatic updates and then i dont get them…
Let me check if there’s some button I haven’t pressed on the Amazon site…

I hope Hanna survived. I know Amber was told she would have no guides but herself and she cried for the loss, but I’m hoping that was just for deciding on her path and not for the future.
I’m really curious about her personality.
In ch 51 amber is gagged when she is removed from oubliette after being hosed down then she responds to people when the bag is removed but I read it as the gag should still be in place.
Absolutely correct. Thank you. I have amended the text to say the bag and gag were removed at the same time when Amaral comes over.

Just re downloaded from Amazon, still no TOC, no chapter breaks, just one long file.
It’s ok, I converted to ePub and added the TOC.
The mechanics of the file aside, I loved the story, thought it seemed a bit too busy at times.
Can wait for the next one.

Art, I’m baffled. I’ve just used their previewer again. This works on the file on their servers (as far as I understand) – so the same one you download. ToC fine and page breaks. I downloaded the HMTL file and, although there are no page breaks in HTML, the ToC is there.

i had the same problem. Sometimes it seems they update the books which are already sold and sometimes they do not. You could contact the customer service.
Amazon response: “At this time, customers who have purchased a Kindle book cannot automatically download the revised content. Our technical team is aware of this issue and working to automate this process.
We received your request to offer updated content to customers who purchased your book. We’ll perform a review of the changes to confirm you made the improvements necessary to correct quality issues present in the earlier version. This review will complete within 7 days.”
This is ‘Support’ in the modern world. Every call is logged and a response is generated within a prescribed time, because the manager is evaluated on those numbers, and they have some bs certification that requires numbers to be within a certain range. Whether the support actually addresses the full issue seems to get lost in the process.
I asked about readers re-downloading, not ‘automatically downloading’, and they haven’t addressed that.
When I submit revised content on KDP, the book is flagged to show that they’re reviewing it. I have assumed that once that flag disappears and the book is once again flagged live, that whatever changes I submitted are now in the live version. The Amazon response quoted above hints that there might not be the case, and that it takes 7 days for corrections to work through their system.
Whatever way it is, there’s little more I can do, unfortunately. The copy of my book that I can access on Amazon has the spelling and format corrections that I have noted in this post. At some stage, that version will go live. At some later stage, Amazon will fix the update facility and readers will get the corrected version if they’ve already bought it.
