Zara – A Name Among The Stars – SciFi Adv/Rom – Episode 14

I thought I’d been going a bit easy on you recently, so this week is a couple of chapters and a real cliffhanger.

On no! What is going on?

Mwah ha ha ha.

+++++++

I have had to remove the episodes I posted here to fall into line with Amazon’s policies on Kindle Unlimited books.

The full novel is available on Amazon:

USA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076WZBFVJ

UK https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076WZBFVJ

Germany https://www.amazon.de/dp/B076WZBFVJ

When I post stories on my blog, they will remain for at least a month after completion.

About Mark Henwick

I was born in Africa and left out in the sun too often. An early interest in philosophy and psychology was adequately exorcised by tending bars. And while trying to enroll in a class to read Science Fiction full time, I ended up taking an engineering degree which splendidly qualified me to move into marketing. That in turn spawned a late onset career in creative writing. When not working, I get high by the slightly less conventional means of a small light aircraft. My first book, 'Sleight of Hand' is available on Amazon at http://amzn.to/Sa0D3n

Yes, that is a true cliff hanger. I may have to go back and read the Bite Back series again…although you left a lot open there also… Fortunately, the new J.D. Robb “Echoes in Death” hit a few days ago, soooo…not entirely without a good mystery. Ok, the truth…I’m reading it the second time already. I have read Zara several times already too. I read very fast, so if I like something, I always reread it. I think I’ve read “Slight of Hand” at least 3 times now.

Wait!! Did you say you’ve been going easy on us?? And just when and where would that be, mean Mark?? …LOL…

Oh that’s dastardly, the laugh was a nice touch.

I liked it -I bet that the wine is somehow connected to her family and her secret is out -but could also be that he druged her or something completly different, which I have not thougt about

  4. Michael Orton says :

Oh please, she has been taught how to taste wine!

You do not just throw it down your throat. You look at it: see how the meniscus climbs the side of the glass. (This gives a crude estimate of the alcohol content so someone of her alleged skill has not been slipped something absurdly proof.) You sniff it: taste is actually more to do with the nose than the mouth. When you eventually put some in your mouth it is a very small amount.

This is an attack form of which she was explicitly warned, though it may be her first encounter with it.

Whatever it is the Duke has just slipped her deserves a far better build up than that. Something with such a speedy onset time which can get past the search of someone trained to look for it is worthy of far more.

It’s also going to be at least Controlled Drug status if not totally illegal.

By all means keep the event in the final version of this story, but the process of the tasting needs to be more detailed. You are using a huge amount of your special effects budget here so milk it for more text!

She has been well taught, and that’s why she says what she’s *not* doing to taste the wine.

I’m afraid our heroine’s judgment has been impaired.

Alas, any more is in spoiler territory. 🙂

  5. Gail Henwick says :

She ought to have spat it out! The Duke wants to know who she is and if he can trust her and he doesn’t have time to play around. Or he has already been taken over by something nefarious 🙂
